The chart shows the average daily minimum and maximum levels of air pollutants in 4 cities 2000.
The bar chart compares four different cities, namely Los Angeles, Calcutta, Beijing and Mexico City, in terms of the daily minimum and maximum levels of SO2 and N2O which discharged into the environment in the year 2000.
Overall, Mexico City had the most amount of SO2 and N2O sending to the atmosphere.
In Los Angeles, the quantity of SO2 emitted to air was the lowest of all cities, with a minimum average of 2 micrograms per m3 and a maximum average five times as much, at 10 micrograms. The levels of N2O emissions were much higher with the maximum medium reaching over 100 micrograms per m3. Meanwhile, Mexico City had the worst air quality because the number of SO2 and N2O released daily was always very high at 80 and 113 with a minimum and 200 and 207 with a maximum.
In contrast to Los Angeles and Mexico City, the main reason to cause pollution in the other two cities was SO2. The everyday average maximum figures for SO2 emissions were 59 micrograms per m3 in Calcutta and 100 micrograms per m3 in Beijing. By contrast, the maximum figures for N2O were just over 50 micrograms per m3 in both cities.
