The line graph shows the percentage of New Zealand population from 1950 to 2050
The line graph illustrates the proportion of the population in New Zealand population, which varies according to age group from 1950 to 2050.
Overall, while the ratio of people aged 0-14 and 38-45 showed an upward trend, a reverse pattern can be seen of the counterpart of people aged 25-37 and over 65.
In 1950, the percentage of people aged from 38 to 45 years old dominated the most among all the factors surveyed, at 25%, which was five times as much as that of 0-14-year-old people. After 40 years, the former witnessed a significant increase to roughly a half; meanwhile, the latter had a slight dip to 4%. After that, this experienced a modest fall in 2000. As it is seen in the graph, it is envisaged to hit the plateau at 40% in the remaining surveyed period, whereas the opposite rose steeply and is set to account for 20% by 2050.
By contrast, in the year 1950, the proportion of people aged over 65 is going to dominate at 60%, which is far exceeding than that of people aged 25-37 (20%). Both figures will then experience a fluctuating trend and are anticipated to hit rock bottom at 55% and 2% respectively at the end of the survey.
