(W1_V2/2) Sea otters are a small mammal that lives in the waters along North America's west coast from California to Alaska.
The reading states that the population of small mammals, which live in the western coast of North America form California to Alaska, are decline because of the pollution and predators problems and provides 3 reasons of support. The professor says that the major reasons of the decease are not relate with pollution troubles and refutes each of the author’s reason.
First, the reading claims that the pollution such as oil rigs and other sources from the industries as a result the numerous small mammals are dead. The professor refutes this point by saying that the main reasons cause not from the pollution because no animal dead on the shore, however, the cause of dead is predators theory .
Second, the article posits that whales which eat all sea otters are the predator, however, the professor states that whales were killed by humans, so they eat not all tiny mammals, but the main predator is orca which change habit to eat small preys.
Third, the reading says that some areas of shore have few sea otters, but another areas have a lot of small mammals because of the pollution problems. The professor opposes this point by explaining that some areas are shallow, so the orcas cannot access in this area. On the other hand, the predators can access when some areas are deep.
