Overall, the usage of renewable energy in five out of six countries went up. It is evident that renewable energy was used the most in Finland and Denmark.
In 1971, Finland accounted for the highest percentage compared to other countries, at nearly one-quarter. During the rest of the years, energy utilized by Finland fluctuated between 15% and 25%. From 1971 to 2011, Denmark experienced a rapid downward trend in renewable energy use and this figure hit the lowest point at about one in ten in 1986, before climbing by well-over 5% in the end year.
Regarding remaining other countries, in 1971, starting at just-under 10%, the utilization of renewable energy in France increased to about 20% in 2011. By contrast, in 1971, the proportions of renewable energy use in other countries were under 6%. However, by 2011, the energy consumption in the US had grown to approximately one-fifth and took over that of Denmark.
