The diagram below shows how electricity is generated in a hydroelectric power station.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The diagram provides information about how electricity is produced from hydropower energy in a station.
Overall, it can be seen that the process by which electricity is produced in a hydroelectric station is a multistep, cyclical process which consists of 4 stages: collecting water in high-level reservoir, flow of water to produce electricity, producing electricity by generator and, the water pumping back to the high-level reservoir..
Innitially, water from river is collected in high-level reservoir to pass through, under the dam, intake. Intake is open in days for water to flow but it is closed at nights. After that, water flows from high-level reservoir to power station in days. The water goes through reversible turbines for producing electricity. In the third stage, electricity is produced by the generator which is operated by the reversible turbines in daytime in the power station. Next, the water which is passed through the reversible turbines flows to low-level reservoir in daytime. Produced electricity is provided to national grid by power lines.
Turning to the remaining information, at nights, the collected water in low-level reservoir is pumped by the reversible turbines into high-level reservoir to flow from high-level reservoir again and produce electricity tomorrow. This process is completed again and again for producing electricity.
