The diagrams below show the life cycle of a species of large fish called the salmon.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make a comparison where relevant.
The picture illustrates the process of the development of the salmon.
Overall, there are three steps in the life cycle of this species of large fish, from eggs to maturity.
As can be seen from the diagram, female salmons choose upper rivers where the water movement is slow to lay her eggs under reeds in which the eggs are covered with small stones. The period between egg incubation to hatching lasts around 5 to 6 months. After 3-to-8-cm-long young salmons emerge, they move to the lower river with the fastmoving current and live there for about 4 years before undergoing further physical changes.
At the next stage, baby fish become young adults called smolts which are between 12 and 15 cm in length. After that, they inhabit open seas for approximately 5 years and then develop into mature salmons with the average length is about 73 cm. The life cycle of salmons continues with the reproduction of the adults. Then, eggs are laid and the cycle starts anew.
