The graph shows the quantities of goods transported in the UK between 1974 and 2002 by four different modes of transport.
The given line chart details the statistical information on the quantity of the commodities(in million tonnes) transported in the UK via four different channels over a period of 28 years from 1994 to 2002.
Looking from the overall perspective, it is readily apparent that the majority of the import was done using roads, while the least was recorded through the pipeline system.
According to the given illustration, to begin with, nearly 70 million tonnes of goods were moved by the road system compared to just 5 million tonnes using pipelines. Also, whereas roads witnessed a slight decline of about 10 million tonnes in 1982, the pipeline business rose three-fold in the same period. After that, despite a few fluctuations, the road business dramatically climbed to a peak value of 100 million tonnes, at the same time, the pipeline business grew steadily before getting leveled off in 1984 at one-fifth of the road business for three consecutive years in a row.
On the other hand, both waterways and rail started at the same value of 40 million tonnes in 1974. Whilst the former experienced a surge followed by a stable behavior at 60 million tonnes until 1994, the latter with a reverse trend slacked off by nearly 10 million tonnes. However, by the end, both observed an upward trend with the former at 65 million tonnes, up by nearly 20 million tonnes than the latter.
