The table below describes the number of employees and factories in England and Wales from 1851 to 1901.
The chart below shows how many employees and factories were in England and Wales throughout the period from 1851 to 1901.
Overall, it is seen from the table that the number of workers both male and female steadily declined during the given data, whilst the volume of plants increased. It is noticeable, that the ratio of both sex levelled off by the 1901.
Going into details, early on there were 287 100 and 190 000 of men and women respectively working at the factories. Then, in 1861 the number of male emloyees dropped to 131 780, whilst the number of female workers did not show a significant fall in comparison with men, it reduced only by 30 thousand. Further, the number of employees both genders declined evenly, before being almost aligned in 1901.
By contrast, the number of factories rose. Interestingly, that during the first ten years it increased only by two factories, with further steady rising and reaching the highest peak of 721 in 1881, followed by gradual falling by 1901.
