The chart below shows the amount of time that 10 to 15-year-olds spend chatting on the Internet and playing on games consoles on an average school day in the UK.
The supplied bar chart compares the amount of time spent on two activities (namely chatting online and playing computer games) by children between the ages of 10 and 15 in England.
Overall, it is evident from the information that playing games is a more popular option among the aforementioned group. In addition, while chatting is more favored by girls, games seem to be a preferred option to many boys.
Looking at the information in more detail, around 85% of boys aged 10 to 15 in the UK admit playing computer games every day, compared to roughly 55% of those who conserve online. Specifically, a majority of boys play video games console for more than one hour every day, and approximately 10% of them spend at least four hours per day doing so. With regard to chatting, slightly over a quarter of boys chat for less than one hour.
10 to 15-year-old girls, on the other hand, tend to favor chatting over playing computer games. Just below 70% of girls are reported to involve themselves in online communication, whilst the figure for those playing games stands at marginally above 50%. As regards chatting on the Internet, most girls spend between 1 and 3 hours, and games, on the contrary, are mostly played for less than an hour. Finally, just 5% of girls respond to playing games for over 4 hours per day.
