The chart shows the percentage of households in owned and rented accommodation in England and Wales between 1918 and 2011

The vertical bar graph elucidates the precise details of accommodation types of families in two regions named England and Wales measured in percentage, over the time period from 1918 to 2011.

Overall, the bar graph highlights the striking patterns among the households over the years, a gradual rise in the count of owned accommodation category with slight fluctuations. However, there was a downward trend with little ebbs and flows was observed for the second category which constitutes rented houses throughout the time period.

For the first twenty years, people who opted to own their houses started with nearly 23% in 1918, and it rose by about 8% by 1939, which then dropped by just 1% in 1953. However, in the following years, the figures soared substantially since 1961, and reached a peak of approximately 70% in 2001 with 5% fall by the end of 2011.

In contrast, the group of people who preferred rented residence accounted for almost three quarters in the beginning of the period, plunged by 10% in 1939 then it remained unaltered for the next 14 years. Although these rates declined considerably until 2001, the proportions grew to 35% by 2010 where the count was halved when compared to 1918.
