Governments should offer college and university education free of charge to all students.
Education plays an imperative role in students' lives. Without education, no one can compete in this precarious world. An educated individual can think of several solutions when exposed to problems and difficulties; however, it is not the case with an uneducated person. But, it's not feasible for the government to facilitate free education for every individual. There are several disadvantages attached to it.
While the education centers provide several facilities of free education, scholarships, and accommodations, the students are misusing and undermining the significance of it. Even equipped with free education policy, students are failing to attend lectures. The students are reluctant to participate actively in the lectures. The line says, "What we have, we do not care to value it". Similarly, if the students have the facility of free education, it's insignificant for them to understand the true value of it. For instance, if we take 2 students with opposite family backgrounds; a farmer and a businessman son. Its' mostly true that if both the children would have been granted the facility of free education, then the farmers' son would be mature enough to understand the importance of it while the businessman's son would be indifferent as he is backed up properly by his father's support.
Moreover, the government funding all the money for the student's education will be impecunious to raise funds for other public services. For example, if the Indian government initiates the fundraising for education then, no money would be left for other public services: healthcare, construction, and infrastructures - ultimately leading to the increased tax. With the increased tax rates, it would not be feasible for the government to handle public abuse and criticism. Therefore, it's an inappropriate solution for the government to provide free education in colleges and universities. However, the government could help the needy.
Only for a genuine cause, the people who are not financially stable, the government could facilitate them with funds and policies. Many revolutionary schemes have been introduced by the government to raise funds for education for the poor people. A popular scheme, 'Grow India - Study India', is reaching an apex by inculcating a myriad of students into education. With the help of this scheme, the literacy rate in India has increased by 20% in the last 2 years.
As discussed in the aforementioned points, the government should not be completely responsible for raising the funds for education. However, they could help the poor and the needy by providing them with several schemes and policies.
