The line graph depicts the data about how many complaints about noise environmental health authorities in the city of Newtown received from 1980 to 1996.
In general, the number of noisy complaints about roadworks, factories, and traffic increased, whereas domestic complaints decreased. In addition, roadwork noise complaints had the largest erratic over the period given.
Looking at the details between 1980 and 1986, roadwork and traffic noise complaints had a similar pattern. In the first four years, they were stable at 500 and 300, respectively, and in the next two years, they declined slightly to 400 and 200 in sequence, then remained at this level for the next two years. However, in the remaining time, while roadwork noise complaints surged and peaked at over 1,200, traffic noise complaints rose significantly to 600. Meanwhile, noise complaints about factories increased significantly from 400 to 600 in the first two years before gradually declining to less than 800 in the following eight years. In the final six years, this saw a slight fall to 700 in the last year of the survey.
In contrast, complaints about domestic noise witnessed a consistent decrease, falling from over 600 in 1980 to just 100 in 1996.
