Task 1: The maps show a beautiful beachfront area in Australia in 1950 and today. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The maps illustrate the modification of beachfront area in Australia in 1950 compared to the present.
Overall, it is clear that while the road to city has been extended, more facilities are also constructed in the present plan.
In 1950, there was only one car park in the area. The car park is now expanded in size, while the playground in the 1950 plan is also demolished to make way for a smaller car park. Additionally, the locations of the dinner tables and pavilion remain unchanged, which are situated between the two car parks. Besides, the road to city is also extended, providing access to the lighthouse at the bottom of the map.
There were two 25-meter pools located on two sides of the map in 1950. Nonetheless, a pool on the left side is expanded to 50 meters in the present. Meanwhile, two surf clubs also occupy part of the area. Particularly, one club is next to the pool, the other is located nearby the lighthouse. Additionally, a new restaurant is also constructed overlooking the beach, which can be observed to the left of the surf club.
