Overall, the data for UK families forming two people was the highest among all categories. Moreover, the number of big families tended to decrease whereas the opposite happened to the family groups with under two members.
The preferred UK household was two-person families with 31% in 1981 and a slight increase of 34% in 2001. In 1981, the rate of people who lived alone was 17% and climbed to 26% 20 years later.
The number of people in UK families that surpassed seemed to decrease in 20 years. The ratio of UK families with three members was under 20% in 1981 and fell gradually 20 years later. A similar pattern can also be seen in the proportion of families with four members, which occupied 18% in 1981 and 15% in 2001. The percentages of UK households forming five and six people were under 10% for 20 years. Especially in 2001, the data for a family of six declined from 6% to 2%, ranking the lowest among six family types.
