The bar graph shows the global sales (in billions of dollars) of different types of digital games between 2000 and 2006.
The bar chart provides information about the global sales of video games for four different platforms, namely mobile phones, online, consoles, and handheld devices, from 2000 to 2006. Overall, except for console games, all digital games increased in 2006. Additionally, online games and mobile phone games had fluctuating sales rankings. And handheld games saw the most significant increase during the period. In 2000, handheld games had the highest worldwide revenue of almost 12 billion dollars, compared to console games, which generated only 6 billion dollars. Handheld games slightly exceeded 12 billion dollars in 2001 and continued to rise to almost 18 billion dollars in 2006, while console games experienced a slight decline to 5 billion dollars, which continued to 3 billion dollars by the end of the period. With regard to other platforms, online games generated less than 1 billion dollars in 2001. In 2002, a new gaming technology called mobile gaming emerged and it generated the same global revenue as online games, at 1 billion dollars each. In the following four years, both platforms significantly increased and exceeded 8 billion dollars and 7 billion dollars respectively.
