In many countries, people now wear Western-style dresses such as suits and jeans rather than traditional clothing. Why is this? Is this a positive or negative development?
Instead of ethnic clothing, western-themed outfits, for instance suits and jeans, have been more and more popular among individuals in numerous nations. Besides, this essay addresses some major causes, I would argue that this has more significant downsides which I will outline in the following paragraph.
Regarding the reasonable factors, Western clothing stands out for its functional design, particularly business purposes. It appears that Armani, served as Italian high-end fashion brand for men’s suits, prioritizes convenience by incorporating features (easy closures and adaptable fits). This versatility allows individuals to confidently wear it in a wide range of professional occasions, from everyday meetings to business projects. Additionally, such style thrives on dynamic seasonal trends, constantly offering fresh styles and reinventions that keep wearers modish. Due to fast-paced environment, designers are inspired to create new styles, Vintage Wash Denim Jacket and Boyfriend jeans, reflecting a multicultural perspective on fashion.
By contrast, in my viewpoint, iconic garments such as kimonos, Japan and sarees, India might lose their cultural heritage when current generations barely show their interest in it. It appears that the woven treasures hold a community's history and values, thus, this behaviour leaves country a great loss of authenticity. Furthermore, lack of sufficient revenue to preserve traditional instruments risks a nation losing local artisans. Apparently, fierce competition from mass-produced clothings threatens the very existence of their unique skills. If numerous citizens prefer high-end styles to historical dresses, wonderful costumes would only become a showcase in international events such as Miss Universe and Miss World.
Overall, the reason why Western wear influences people’s preference more than conventional clothing is because it is practical to be day-to-day use and spots on fashionable look. However, I would debate that this behaviour leads to negative impacts, including the loss of national heritage and national designers’ interests.
