The chart below shows the changes in the percentage of households* with cars in one European country between 1971 and 2001.
The given bar chart gives information about how the proportion of households using cars in a nation of Europe over a period of 30 years starting from 1971 to 2001.
Overall, as can be seen from the chart, it is clear that an upward trend was seen in the rate of households owning 1 car and 2 or more cars, while the opposite was true for the figure for the not-using-car household. In addition, the percentage of 1-car households experienced the most noticeable change over the given period.
In 1971, the proportion of households not using a car was the highest, at about 47%, while the figure for 2-or-more-car households was significantly lower, at roughly a third of the no-car household's rate. At the same time, the percentage of households that have one car accounted for approximately 35%. After two decades, a remarkable rise was seen in the rate of households owning one car, which helped this criterion to reach a peak of roughly 47%, while the figure for no-car households had overcome a dramatic decline to about 30%.
In 2001, although the percentage of one-car households declined slightly by 4% to roughly 43%, it still remained the highest figure of the three criteria. Additionally, while an insignificant decline of 2% to 28% was seen in the rate of households that do not use cars, the figure for 2 or more cars witnessed a fluctuation and rose to 28%.
