The bar chart illustrates the percentage of travellers in a European city, used the four various types of transport means ( bus, car, bike and foot) for work in three different years 1960, 1980 and 2000.
Overall, a dramatic increase in percentage of people used car for travelling to and from work while proportion of travellers used bike and foot, experienced a significant decrease, in a given period. Furthermore, bus usage showed fluctuation during the time frame.
In terms of car, only 5% people used it as a travelling mode for work purpose in 1960, this figure rose sharply to around 22% in 1980 and hitting the highest point at 35% at the end of the period and became the most favourite transport mean used by the people among rest other modes.
In 1960, bike used by less than quarter travellers, this, then, drop significantly to 5% in the last year. Similarly, in the beginning of period, around 33% people travelled to and from work by walk and it was the most favourite travelling mode than rest other. This figure then fell sharply to around 16% in 1980 and 8% in 2000. Whereas, nearly 18% people used bus in 1960, which, then, jumped up to 25% in 1980, again declined to approximately 15%, at the end of the period.
