The bar charts illustrates the percentage of expenditures for five major categories in the United States in the year 2009.
Overall, the largest proportion of expenditures in all countries, except for Japan, went on housing. Also, the percentage of consumer spending for health care and clothing was significant lower than that of others.
As can be seen from the charts, the US expenditure on housing was highest, with over 25%. The figure for transportation and food was followed, with 17% and 14% respectively. The proportion of consumer spending was significant lower with 8% on health care and 3.5% on clothing. Besides, the proportion of expenditure on housing of Canada was 21%, relatively similar to the figure for transportation and 3 times as much as the percentage of expenditure for health care.
Looking at the chart in more details, the percentage of UK consumer spending on health care was the lowest, with only 3% while compared to 15% of transportation and 20% of food. Japanese spend the largest share of expenditure on food with approximately 23%, while the figures for transportation and clothing was 10% and 4% respectively.
