The graph below shows the price in Euros of 800 grams of four types of bread
in one European country from 2001 to 2006.
The line graph shows changes in the price of 800 grams of four different types of bread in a
country in Europe between 2001 and 2005.
Overall, while the price of wholegrain bread fluctuated wildly, there were increases of varying
degrees in that of the other three types. It is also clear that with the most noticeable growth in
price, brown bread, replacing wholegrain bread, became the most expensive type of bread in
2005.
In 2001, 800 grams of wholegrain bread cost 0.8 Euros, which was 0.2 Euros more expensive
than the other three types. The price of wholegrain bread then jumped to peak of 1.8 Euros in
2002, with a subsequent dramatic drop to 1 and 0.7 Euros in 2003 and 2004 respectively,
followed by a slight rise to the initial price of 0.8 Euros in 2005.
It is of note that the price of brown, white and rye bread was exactly the same in the first
surveyed year. While white bread cost significantly more in the following years, with the price
amounting to 1.3 Euros for 800 grams in 2005, that of rye bread was relatively stable between
0.5 and 0.7 Euros for the same weight. After almost tripling from 0.6 to 1.6 Euros from 2001 to
2003, the price of brown bread was erratic, hovering between 1.4 and 1.6 Euros till the end of the period.
