The graph below shows average carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per person in the United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy and Portugal between 1967 and 2007.
The average carbon dioxide (CO2) emission per capita measured in metric tonnes between 1967 and 2007 in four European countries is depicted in the graph.
Overall, UK made up the highest CO2 emissions, although such trend showed a decline, following by Sweden’s figure. However, the CO2 emission raised gradually in two remaining countries.
In 1967, UK accounted for CO2 emissions over 10 metric tonnes while the figure for Portugal showed the lowest CO2 emissions at below 2. After 40 years, UK successfully decreased such emissions to slight over 8, making a narrow gap with Italy emissions by around 1. However, Sweden and Portugal had same emission level at under 6 in 2007.
Standing at over 8, CO2 emitted in Sweden had experienced an increase at over 10 in 1977, followed by Italy and Portugal at around 6 and 2 respectively. While Sweden decreased CO2 emissions the figure for the other countries continued the upward trends. However, UK emissions constantly decreased over the period.
