The pictures depict the evolution of the horse over a span of 40 million years.
Overall, there are four stages that highlight the differences that occurred to the horse, beginning with the Eohippus, which existed 40 million years ago and ending with the development of the modern horse.
Initially, 40 million years ago, the size and the tail of the first horse called Eohippus were relatively small. In terms of the foot structure, the first horse had the most toes. In the next stage, the Mesohippus was a slightly better version of the previous one, with a bigger size, a longer tail and legs. There were also less toes in the foot structure of this species compared to that of the Eohippus.
Following this, the Merychippus emerged, the horse that had more mane fur than the previous horses. It was evident that its tail and legs grew longer than the older horses. The final stage was the development into the modern horse, the form with a denser mane, an extended tail, and a simplified foot structure.
