The graph below shows the average number of UK commuters travelling each day by car, bus or train between 1970 and 2030.
The number of British passengers commuting by car, bus or train from 1970 to 2010 and the prediction until 2030 is illustrated by the given line graph.
Overall, the most popular form of transportation was the car and it is predicted to be the same until the end of the projected periods. It is also interesting to note that, the number of passengers riding the bus decreased and it is expected to decrease, whereas the train passengers is having an increasing trend.
Initially, the highest number of people (of about 5 million) was riding a personal vehicle to commute, whereas bus and train had about 4 million passengers and approximately 2.75 passengers, respectively. The number of drivers and train commuters continued to increase where it reached at about 7 million car drivers and 3 million train riders by 2000. Concurrently, the bus passengers declined substantially to reach at close to 3 million people by 2000.
During 2000 and 2010, the passengers for train and cars remained constant at 3 million and close to 7 million passengers, respectively and then these are predicted to increase until approximately 5 million and 9 million passengers by 2030. Meanwhile, the bus is expected to be the least popular form of transportation as it will have only about 3 million passengers by 2030.
