The graph below shows the average daily spend of three categories of international visitor to New Zealand from 1997 to 2017.
The given graph illustrates the average expenditure per day of global travelers to NZ on business, holiday and paying a visit to relatives during a period of 20 years.
It is evident that expenses for a trip to friends and family members’ places was by far the lowest. In contrast, the majority of visitors showed the most preferences toward commercial meetings in the first half of the period , while the predilection was diverted to vacations in the last year.
In 1997, daily spending on vacations was at about 190$, followed by the lead of that on business with over 250$, and far beating that on the remaining category by around 90$. In the next 5 years, NZ’s international income of these 3 types increase exponentially before reaching their peaks at 330$ for commerce, 270$ for vacation and nearly 220$ for friends and family gathering.
From around 2002 to 2010, the figures for 3 kinds witnessed a dramatic deceleration and after that fluctuated considerably. Over the last 7 years, whereas the money spent on family visits fell and rose within a narrow range, that of other two still experienced the same trend. In the last year 2017, holiday superseded business in terms of international revenue with approximately 250$ and 210$ respectively, while visitors’ expenditure on family trips was at the bottom with under 140$.
