The graph below shows different sources of air pollutants in the UK from 1990 to 2005. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The line graph reveals the amount of air contaminants stemming from three different sources in the UK between 1990 and 2005. Overall, it is evident that the trends for all sources were downward over the period given. It can also be observed that a much larger volume of pollutants was emitted by the industry whereas households produced the least.
In 1990, the total atmosphere pollutants stood at 7 million tones, which experienced a decline to 4 million tonnes in 1999 and continued to dip to just over 3 million tonnes by the end of the period. Industry constituted 5.5 million tonnes of the air contaminants in 1990. There was then a drop to a figure of exactly 2 million tonnes with a sharp fall between 1993 and 1996.
In stark contrast, there were slight fluctuations in the figures for transport and households. While the former plateaued at around 1 million tonnes of air contaminants during a span of 15 years, the latter fell from roughly 1 million tonnes in 1990 to around 0.1 million tonnes in 2005.
