Overall, upper secondary teachers had to teach the most of their time. Teachers in the USA had to spend the most time teaching.
During 2001, Japanese upper secondary teachers had to teach 700 hours per year. It takes less than 200 hours to travel to Spain and Iceland. The upper secondary teacher in the USA had to instruct about 1200 hours. The lower secondary teacher in Iceland had taught the least amount of time in the four countries with 600 hours for teachers in Japan, 650 hours for teachers in Spain and 850 hours for teachers in the USA.
And for primary school, Iceland still had the least number of teaching hours with almost 600 hours equivalent to Japan and slightly more than Iceland. However, the USA still takes the highest teaching time. The USA had almost 1,000 teaching hours for primary school, making it the highest out of the three countries. This is almost double the amount of teaching hours compared to Iceland. Japan was in the middle with approximately 600 hours.
