The line graph compares changes in the price of three different types of food product groups and the overall trend in the consumer-price index over a 30 years period from 1978 to 2009.
It is clear from the line graph that all the amounts of Fresh fruits and vegetables, sugar and sweets and carbonated drinks all increased. Additionally, the figure for Fresh fruits and vegetables was higher than the consumer-price index average during the research period.
In 1979, all the lines on the graph have the same starting figure of about 60. The consumer-price index rose steadily from about 60 to over 200 in 2009. Prices for sugar and sweets and carbonated drinks witnessed similar strends. Although their prices went up, they were consistently below the consumer-price index average after 1987. The number of sugar and sweets was 200 in 2009 higher than the amount of carbonated drinks, at 150.
Prices for Fresh fruits and vegetables rose dramatically after 1989. In 2009, the amount of Freh fruits and vegetables increased to roughly 300 and became the highest figure,above the consumer-price index average .
