The line chart details the proportion of residents living in Australia in millions from different regions between 1976 and 2011.
The line graph provides information on how many people ( in million ) come from different races namely UK, Asia and other living in Australia in a 35-year period starting from 1976
From a general perspective, while the number of Asian and other races saw an upward trend, the UK’s population in Australia declined over the surveyed time. The total number of foreigners in this country fluctuated; however, it increased at the end of the span.
In 1976, the number of UK’s residents living in Australia was roughly 13 million, which was much higher compared to Asian and other races, with about 7 million and 11 million, respectively. Subsequently, this number rapidly fell to 10 million in the next decade; before gradually declining to 5 million in 2011
The opposite was true for Asians’ population in Australia, this number progressively improved after the initial year. By 2006, the figure reached nearly 12 million, followed by a sustained growth to 15 million, which increased nearly three-fold compared to 1976.
In terms of others, the figure for this witnessed a waving shift, however surged in general. Starting with nearly 11 million, this figure saw a dip in 1986, hitting the lowest point of 8 million. In the following years, after jumping from 8 to 14 million in 20 years, the population gradually declined to just about 12 million in 2011.
In the first 2 decades of the surveyed period, the total figure moderately reduced by 4 million ( from 23 to 19 million ). Following that, the number sequentially recovered to the starting point before gradually surging by 2 million in the last decade.
