the number of marriages and divorces
Given are two bar charts illustrating the amount of marriages and divorces in United States of America, as well as the percentage of American adults' marital status for a period of 30 years from 1970 to 2000.
Overall, despite the fluctuation between 1970 and 1980, American tended to marry less in the period given. Similarly, the cases of divorces slightly reduced after reaching a peak in 1980 during 30 years. Unsurprisingly, most of people in US were either married or never married.
With respects to marriages, the number of that in 2000 was the least over the period, which accounted for only two millions whereas in both 1970 and 1980 that was straightly higher in comparison (2.5 millions). On the other hand, the figure of divorces in 1980 was the greatest but suddenly dropped continually and return to the same level as 1970 (just under 1.5 millions and 1 millions respectively).
The percentage of American residents who got married In 1970 stood at nearly three fourth (70%) as well as just under 60% in 2000, followed by that of whom have never married (approximately 15% in both 1970 and 2000). Interestingly, the proportion of widowed American in 1970 was higher than that in 2000, and the reverse would be true for divorced people. Ratios of both widowed and divorced American were below 10 percent.
