• Task 1: The charts below give information about children under 18 learning musical instruments in one region of the UK in 1996 and 2016. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The charts show statistics about the percentage of learners under 18 and their choices among musical instruments in one region of the UK in 1996 and 2016.
Overall, there was an increase in the figure for children under 18 who learned a musical instrument in 2016. Moreover, while keyboard and electric guitar followed an upward trend, the opposite was true for piano, violin, acoustic guitar and others. In addition, keyboard and piano were the most popular genres in both years.
Regarding the pie chart, approximately a half of children under 18 were learning a musical instrument in 1996, at 44 percent. In the next 20 years, the percentage of them was recorded with a rise of 32 percent.
In terms of choices of musical instruments, it was substantial that 30 percent of learners under 18 chose piano before falling lightly to 27% in 2016. The proportion of keyboard players under 18 witnessed the sharpest increase from 21% to 30% in 20 years. Interestingly, that of under 18 electric guitarists and children playing more than one instrument also followed the same pattern with the more modest rises of 3% and 1%, respectively. With 14%, the number for violin was twice as much as acoustic guitar in 1996 before decreasing to 10 percent in 2016.
