Essay topics:

US government expenditure on research

The line graph illustrates the US government expenditure on 4 different researches from 1980 to 2008.

Overall, the amounts of money invested in 4 studies increased over a period of 28 years. Also, Health was the most popular research field during the period shown.

It is clear that the US government expenditure on Health was highest with about 8 millon dollars, which was much higher than only roughly 3 million dollars invested on Enerygy in 1980. Over the next 28 years, the figure for Health witnessed a considerable decrease of 2 million dollars in 1984, reaching a peak of 21 million dollars in 2004, but then slightly declined by 2 million dollars in 2008. By contrast, although remaining stable until 1992, there was a significant rise to about 6 million dollars in the amount of money poured to Energy at the end of the period.

Of the other research fields, the US government expenditures on Space and Other were quite similar with around 7 million dollars in 1980. After some fluctuations during the period, the figures for Space and Other grew to nearly 10 million dollars and exactly 7.5 millions dollars in the last year respectively.
