In recent years, the family structure has changed, as well as family roles. What are the changes occurring? Do you think these changes are positive or negative?
For decades, there has been a noticeable alteration among the family structure and parental roles. While certain changes are explaining this tendency, I believe that this has a positive impact on people’s lives.
Traditionally, people are accustomed to living in an extended family in which they are under the same roof with their grandparents and other relatives. Besides, the parental roles between fathers and mothers used to be breadwinners and housewives respectively. Taking Vietnam as an example, Vietnamese fathers are only responsible for earning money, while mothers just stay at home and look after their children. In contrast, mothers today can pursue their dream jobs instead of staying at home and doing households, whereas fathers can share various responsibilities with their wives. Additionally, they also tend to live separately from their parents and build their own family in a private house or an apartment.
Alongside the influence of this trend, I believe that this is beneficial to people’s lives. First, this directly eases the burden that mothers have to bear because they have to sacrifice her jobs to support the whole family. Furthermore, spouses now can find it easier to strike a financial balance due to the equality of sharing jobs. For instance, they can hire babysitters to look after their children while both focusing on the job at their workplace. Consequently, they not only gain financial stability but also experience a decent life.
In conclusion, while the changes have taken place in different areas for decades, I think these are a positive step, contributing to a better world.
