The graph below shows the changes in food consumption by Chinese people between 1985 and 2010.
The line chart indicates the amount of three different food consumed in China from 1985 to 2010. Overall, the consumption of fish and meat increased, while the consumption of salt fell. It is noted that China accounted for the highest consumption of fish.
To begin, in 1985, the amount of fish consumed stood at the highest amount, at 600 grammes. Figures for salt and meat were lower, at nearly 500 grammes and 100 grammes respectively. By 1995, the chart shows a different trend between the consumption of the three kinds of food. While the amount of salt consumed had fallen gradually to approximately 350 grammes, the figure for meat had risen steadily to just above 150 grammes. On the other hand, the consumption of fish had remained unchanged, despite a reach of 700 grammes in 1990.
During 15 years later, the amount of fish consumed had grown considerably to approx 850 grammes. It is clear that fish consumption remained the top amount over the period of 25 years. Similarly, meat consumption had increased slightly to 200 grammes. In contrast, there was a gradual decrease in the amount of salt consumed, at 200 grammes by 2010.
