tax on ciggaret is fair
The reading states that imposing high taxes on cigarettes and other unhealthy food will benefit society and will lead to healthy behaviour and provides three reasons for support. However, the professor explains that it would not lead to a healthy society necessarily and refutes each of author's reason.
First, the reading states that the taxes on cigarettes and unhealthy food will lead to discouraging people from smoking and eating these foods. The professor refutes this point, and explain that the high taxes on cigarettes would force a smoker to buy cheaper cigarettes as we know these cigarettes have more dangerous material in comparison to high-quality cigarettes, so it makes them more endangered.
Second, the reading claims that these taxes are fair because people with healthy behaviour should not cover the medical costs. However, the professor refutes this point and says that imposing high taxes on cigarettes and unhealthy food is not fair at all because people with high income and low income pay the same amount of their payment for this behavior it is not fair at all.
Third, the reading states that taxes like these will provide a financial source for government and all society would benefit from this. The professor refutes this point and says that it is possible that the government used to these resources and would not tend to lose these taxes consequently do not prevent people from smoking in public place.
