Torreya taxifoha
Torreya taxifoha is a genre of plant which was much common in Florida in the past, but recently, this kind of plant began to decline and had the trend of dying out. The article provides three options to protect the Torreya taxifola from being extinct. However, the professor in the lecture points out that all the three ways to save Torreya taxifola will not successful. And she says that none of these three options can be a good satisfactory solution to deal with the problem.
First off, the passage claims that reestablishing Torreya in the same location in Florida can be a good idea, since in this way, the Torreya can live in a microclimate which is relatively wetter and cooler. But the professor says that this option will unlikely be successful. The areas' microclimate is effected by the change of large regions. For example. the global warming will increase the area's temperature, and the wetlands will also affect, so the area's climate will be drier and unlikely to have the condition which Torreya can survive in Florida.
Furthermore, the article says that moving the plants to an purely different place wil address the situation. However, the professor do not agree with the statement. She provides an example of another kind of tree. This tree has been transmitted to another place and spread so quickly that has killed many other plants and trees in the new place, even worse, some plants and trees are in danger right now. Therefore, the professor says that moving plants to a new place may result in unpredicted shortcomings to the new environment.
Last but not least, the passage argues that preserving the Torreya taxifoha in the research centers can be good for the plant. Again, the professor refutes this option. She says that preserving the plants in the centers can not help them resist disease. Plants need a large area and genetic diversity to resist disease. Without such things, they cannot survive. A simply center can not support such large population, therefore, the trees cannot survive the disease for a long time.
In a nutshell, the professor believes that all the three options are not good satisfactory solutions.
- Which area the government should fund to improve children s education 1 hiring more teachers to teach in a small class 2 preschool education before kindergarten 3 providing some training courses so that teachers can be more professional 84
- animal fossils usually provide little opportunity to study the actual fossil tissues 3
- Torreya taxifoha 73
- physical exercise is important to older people than to young people 44
- It is better to work for business owned by someone else than to work for the business of one s own family 87
