The visual given presents the yearly amount of movies rented or sold from a particular shop between 2002 and 2011. It can be seen that number of rentals, that was the biggest at the beginning, significantly dropped throughout the years. On the other side, dvd sales reached its peak in 2007, and had remained as a top-selling item.
Firstly, number of vhs sales that were slightly more than 80,000 dropped to only 10.000 in 2005. Moreover, after that there were no any more recorded sales for vhs. However, the blue-ray format movies sale started in 2007 with about one thousand sales and increased to 15.000 sales in 2011. Furthermore, from the peak of 180,000 blue-ray rentals that were in 2002, slightly below 60.000 of the rentals were done in 2011.
Dvd movie sales was the only branch that had grown up to 200.000 sales in 2007, the biggest ever, and had only slightly dropped to 180.000 in 2011.
To sum up, it is obvious that technology improvements ejected VHS from the market and had reduced number of total movies rented. As a result, number of dvd sales and blue-ray increased.
