Friends
As social beings, humans are not able to survive on their own - they need friends. Personally, I believe that meeting new fellows is way more beneficial than sticking to the old company for your whole life. I feel this way for two reasons, which I will explore in the following essay.
First of all, everybody changes overtime. We constantly evolve not only biologically, but also spiritually and mentally. As we change, our relationships with other people change as well. My personal experience is a compelling example of this. Katarina and I were best friends throughout the highschool. We used to spend almost every day together and talk about our favorite TV shows, books, magazines and many other things that we had in common. As a result of that, I couldn't imagine my future without her. However, everything changed when we graduated from highschool. I wanted to go to the Arts school, and she wanted to become an author. As a result of that, we gradually stopped spending time together as we had different schedules. We both found new friends at our novel schools, and we somehow stopped talking to each other. To be honest, I have no idea how that happened - but it seems like we both drastically changed in a way that we became strangers to each other. Even though I still love her as a friend, I prefer spending time with my new company than talking to her.
Secondly, meeting new people is a great way to experience different cultures and get an insight into various points of view. Diversity is crucial for the evolution of an organism, but it is also beneficial for personal progress. For instance, I used to be very shy until I met Amy who became my best friend. Her rebellious spirit would always put me into unpleasant situations. For example, once she woke me up in the middle of the night and made me buy a train ticket to Amsterdam. Quite honestly, it was the best trip I've ever had. Also, it was something that I would have never been able to do on my initiative. Once shy, I turned into an adventurer.
In conclusion, I am of the opinion that staying open-minded is always better than being on the safe side. This is because we constantly unconsciously change and staying open to new experiences will embrace this change in the most positive way.
