The pie chart below shows the main reasons why agricultural land becomes less productive. The table shows how these causes affected three regions of the world during the 1990s.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The pie chart illustrates the causes of worldwide land degradation which leads to less agricultural productions. As is shown, animals over-grazing is one of the main reasons with a 35 percent impact. Deforestation and over-cultivation almost play the same role in this disaster with the amount of respectively 30 and 28 percent. Other factors have a tiny fraction of this pie chart with only 7 percent.
The table shows the causes of land degradation by region. It can be seen from the table that the majority of land degradation happened in Europe (23%), while North America has the lowest total with only 5 percent of degraded land. Oceania has the second most degraded lands. It is clear from the table that over-grazing in Oceania(11.3%) is almost doubled compared with Europe(5.5%), and North America take the third place in this row with only 1.5%. Although deforestation in North America is near zero percent (0.2%), Europe has a large amount of it (9.8%) and Oceania is 1.7 percent. On the other hand, over-cultivation is zero in Oceania and the rate of this factor in Europe and North America is respectively 7.7 and 3.3 percent.
