The graph shows the number of marriages and divorces in the UK between 1975 and 2000.
The manifested chart evinces the figure of marriages and separations of couples per thousand during a quarter of 20 century commencing from 1975 in the country of the United Kingdom.
As can be seen in the graph, the number of total marriages enhanced from well under 500,000 in 1975 to about 650,000 in 1985, accompanied by a slight decline in 1990. While considerably dwindling in 1995 (just below 600,000), this value modestly improved during the last five years by 2000. On the contrary, the number of divorces inexorably increased from approximately 90,000 to 250,000 during these years with various slopes. For example, the slope of the last 10 years was lower than that of the first five years.
Regarding the number of marriages, whether for the first or the second marriage indicated by the red and green line, respectively, it can be said that about the former one, its figure enhanced from around 340,000 in 1975 to ca. 400,000 in 1985. In the following, it went through a decrease till to 300,000 in 2000. In contrast, the number of people experiencing a second marriage constantly went up from 150,000 from the date of initiation investigation, i.e., 1975, to 270,000 in 2000 apart from a minimum in 1995.
Overall, the similarity among the trend of lines demonstrates that these lines can be categorized into two subsections. The first one is for total marriages and 1st marriages. Nonetheless, the second one can be dedicated to divorces and 2nd marriages.
