The following tables show how many millions of euros of coffee and bananas which were labelled Fairtrade sold in five European nations in two different years of 1999 and 2004.
As can be clearly observed from the first table, there were a dramatic increase in sales of coffee in UK and Switzerland, from 1.5 to 20 and from 3 to 6, respectively during 1999 to 2004. By contrast, other three countries witnessed a slight climb in sales of coffee. Coffee sales in Denmark was 1.8 in 1999 and reached 2 million Euros, while coffee sales in Belgium went up a bit more from 1 to 1.7 at the same course. Likewise, the same sales pattern could be seen in Sweden.
With regard to the second table, unlike the fact that Switzerland, UK, and Belgium experienced a remarkable rise in bananas sales during 1999 to 2004, there were a sharp decline in sales of bananas in Sweden and Denmark. Bananas sales in Switzerland become more than triple, from 15 in 1999 touched 47 in 2004. Similarly, UK and Belgium bananas sales rocketed wildly from 1 to 5.5 and from 0.6 to 4 within 1999 to 2004. On the other hand, sales of bananas were virtually halved from 1.8 to 1 and from 2 to 0.9 during 1999 to 2000.
It is clear from the tables that despite other nations, UK and Switzerland observed far more considerable rise in sales of both coffee and bananas during 1999 to 2004.
