The graph below shows the percentage of people in the different age groups who went to the cinema once a month in Great Britain.
The line graph indicates the proportion of people split by four age brackets who went to the cinema once a month in the UK from 1984 to 2000.
Overall, while the attendance of cinema goers in all four age groups increased significantly, 15-to-24-year-olds were the most frequent attendees of the cinema during the period surveyed.
In 1984, approximately 18% of those aged 15 to 24 went to the cinema once a month, being the highest cinema attendance of all age brackets. It is followed by the 7-14 age group and 25-35 age group with their figures at 10% and 4% respectively. Meanwhile, almost no one aged 35 or over went to the cinema. Over the following 16 years, the rate of attendance of all age brackets went up gradually.
By 2000, there was a threefold increase in the proportion of those from 15 to 24 years old, reaching its peak of roughly 60%, which doubled the figures of 7-to-14-year-olds and 25-to-35-year-olds. In contrast, the cinema attracted about 15% of cinema goers who were aged 35 or plus at the end of the period
