The line graph shows data on three particular criminal spheres in Newport city centre between 2003 to 2012.
Overall, burglary showed a downward trend, while the quantities of car theft and robbery cases relatively fluctuated, in which stealing automobile was the most commonly committed offence and robbery was the least one.
At the start of the period, there was a sharp contrast in the numbers of crimes. Particularly, criminal cases regarding burglary and car theft showed the highest figures standing at around 3,400 and 2,800 respectively, as opposed to that of robbery with only approximately 600 incidents. Then, the crime rates in burglaries peaked in 2004 at 3,750 cases before reaching the lowest point four years later at 1,100 incidents and ended the period as the second least common illegal action.
On the other hand, the figures for stealing cars reduced to over 2000 cases in 2006 but gradually rose several years later, while those of robberies demonstrated a slight fluctuation. At the end of the period, robbery was by far the most highly committed crime achieving about 2,750 cases, while robbery still remained as the least common criminal offence with only around 600 incidents.
