Overall, the amount of money spent on books increased. Among this incremental trend, Germany shows the dominant amount of money spent on books, whereas Austria experienced the remarkable amount of money spent on books in the later years.
In 1995, Germans spent the largest amount of money on books of $80 million in comparison to $55 million and $50 million spent on books by French and Italian, respectively. The lowest amount spent on books was Austria of $30 million. After that, the amount of money spent on books increased steadily to reach at $85 million for Germany, $70 million for France and $55 million for Italy and $40 million for Austria by 2001.
From 2001, Austria devoted most of their money on books where it rose remarkably from $40 million to $70 million in 2005 which were the same for France. Meanwhile, Germany recorded as the dominant amount of money spent on books of $95 million, whilst Italy had the lowest spending of $60 million on books in 2005.
