The reading passage and the lecture both discuss the reasons of sea cows extinction. On the first hand, the reading state that there are theories responsible toward the sea cows extinction. On the other hand, the professor explain that these theories are not true and refutes each of the reading reasons.
First of all, the article claims that groups of Siberian people over hunted the sea cows because it were a good source of food. however, The lecture argues that sea cows were huge creature unless they hunted these animals it was not the main reason due to small number of them.
In addition, the reading makes the argument is that the disturbance of ecosystems caused a sever decline in the food like a klep that was the main supply to the sea cows. The lecture argues this point by stating that when the ecosystem changed that will had a impact on all creatures not just the sea cows, and the professor provide an example that the ecosystem will affect on whales also.
Lastly, the reading passage argues that an European the main reason of hunting after 1741. The lecture counter this claim by pointing out that the extinction happened before European coming, and they were a small group of people.
