The graph below compares changes in the birth rates of China and the USA between 1920 and 2000. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The line graph depicts the shift in the birth rates of 2 countries over the course of 80 years starting in 1920. Looking at the graph, it is immediately obvious that the birth rates in both countries witnessed a downward trend. Throughout the examined period, the proportion of birth in China registered the highest figures out of 2 groups.
In 1920-1935, the birth rate in American fluctuated, although it still remained above 10 percent before significant dropping to 5 percent in 1945. In 1950, the figure drastically increased tripled to exactly 20%, which was its highest point during the 80-year period. Throughout the remainder of the period, there was a gradual decline in the US birth rate, which fell to about 7% which was also the bottom of the line.
At the beginning of the period, the percentage of birth in China varied more significantly than the US. There has been growth in the number of birth in 1930-1935 before dropping sharply to 5% which remained from1940 to 1945. A similar trend of the US was experienced in the percentage of birth, which also rapidly increased from 5% to 20% between 1945 and 1950 in China. However, this proportion of birth decreased steeply to approximately 7% in 5 years later, falling to approximately 2% by 2000
