The diagram below shows how the water cycle works.
The graphic is of the circulation of the Earth's water which happens in three stages. They are evaporation, cloud formation and raining.
Firstly, due to the sun's heat, water from all sources on the ground such as oceans, rivers, lakes, groundwater, along with the water transpired from plants and trees, would be evaporated into the air as vapour. Next, rising air currents, or winds, would take the vapour up into the atmosphere where cooler temperature causes it to condense into clouds. While the winds move the clouds around the globe, the condensation process is continued until the condensed droplets are heavy enough to fall out of the sky as precipitation. The collision among the clouds is also one of the reasons for falling precipitation. The two most popular forms of precipitation are rain and snow.
Finally, the falling precipitation, due to the gravity, would flow into many existent water sources like underground streams, seas, canals, etc. There and then, the water cycle would start over again.
