The pie charts below show the average household expenditures in a county in 1950 and 2010.
The given pie charts compare the proportion of money spent on an average in a household in the context of five different sectors in a county over a period of 60 years from 1950 to 2010.
Looking from the overall perspective, it is readily apparent that housing, which was the major investment area in 1950, has reduced dramatically over the period. Although all the other sectors have grown significantly, the food sector has witnessed a tremendous investment hike.
According to the given illustration, nearly three-fourth of the total income was diverted to the housing needs in 1950, followed next by food(11.2%) and education(6.6%). However, healthcare, transportation, and other spendings observed a marginal share of only 2.4%, 3.3%, and 4.4% respectively.
After nearly half a century, the expenditure share for housing plummeted sharply by one-third(72% down to 22%). On the contrary, over time the investment in other categories expanded at a significant rate. With almost five times increment, spendings in other areas rose to 19.2%. An investment surge in transportation climbed the value higher by four times(14%). Also, the spending on food soared up by nearly three-fold(11.2% rose to 34%). However, education and healthcare experienced a slight uptick of only 0.3% and 2.1% respectively.
